IMHO the real reason is to push people to buy new hardware, especially laptops. Microsoft will graciously allow you to keep older drivers if they're first installed in build 1607 or earlier, otherwise it silently blocks their install or if you try a manual install it will lie to you with a BS "error" about not being able to find a file. If I could even find the zip archive of that driver I suspect the only way to make it work is to install Win 10 build 1607, update to build 1903, then 20H2. got Miracast functional with HD 4000 - but that's 2017 and we all know Microsoft has been doing some downright *despicable things* when it comes to support for older drivers, supposedly for "security". I found a post on Intel's forum from 2017 that manually installing from the zip version of driver version 10. This driver also resolves the yellow exclamation point error that may appear in Device Manager next to Microsoft® Standard VGA Graphics Adapter which indicates that a driver is not installed for that device. So how to make Intel give me back Miracast? This utility installs the Intel HD Graphics / Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver and includes the Intel Display Audio driver version 6. The nVidia GPU can be activated on demand by apps and games or manually forced on for a particular app or game that for some reason doesn't automatically use it. My Latitude E6530 is the version with nVidia NVS 5200M GPU *and* a Core i7 3540M with HD 4000 graphics and 1920x1080 display. For some reason with newer drivers Intel has decided to disable Miracast in Windows 10 on CPUs with HD 4000 graphics, even if there's a WiDi compatible wireless device, even if the computer had working Miracast with previous versions of Windows or in Windows 10 with some earlier driver.
